Today marks the start of New Homes Week, an annual campaign by the Home Builders Federation (HBF), highlighting the many advantages of buying a new build home.

During this week HBF will feature some of the benefits of new build homes, including energy efficiency, home warranty cover and the support available throughout the buying process. Hear stories from communities and homeowners, and get lots of tips and advice designed to help home buyers make the most of their new home.

The Code will be supporting the campaign, sharing information about the protection and support we provide, and the requirements builders must meet under our Code to provide good customer service.

Download our Home Buyers guide for a brief overview of the support available to home buyers, and watch our three short videos which explain how the Code supports you at each stage of your purchase. We have also summarised highlights from the revised Code, introduced last year, which enhances the protection available including a 14 calendar day cooling off period, the right to undertake a pre-completion snagging inspection and better pre-contract information.

Of course, there are many aspects involved in buying a new build home and it can be a little daunting, especially if you’re a first time buyer. But to help you understand your new property purchase we’ve set out some important points so you know what to expect. You can also refer to our 9 essential steps for new home buyers and our tips for keeping your new build on track, all of which should equip you with lots of knowledge to help ensure your purchase is as smooth as possible.

Peace of mind comes in the form of a 10 year warranty, covering you for most structural defects and most minor snagging issues. The Code is supported by NHBC, LABC Warranty, Premier Guarantee and Checkmate (Lockton Companies LLP), and we explain more about warranties and why they are important, in our blog How do home warranties protect your home?

There can, however, be teething troubles, so it’s good to know that support is available should you need it. This is explained in our post, Buying a new build home? Discover what support is available.

You can also visit the Resources Hub on the Code’s website which has a wealth of additional information and other helpful blogs and videos all covering the various aspects of buying a new home.
