Unlike purchasing a second-hand home, most newly built homes come with warranty and insurance protection which usually lasts for ten years. There are a number of different warranty providers, although NHBC, LABC Warranty, Premier Guarantee and Checkmate between them cover approximately 95% of all new homes built in the UK and are all members of the Consumer Code for Home Builders. Policies differ, but generally provide comprehensive cover against major structural defects to protect home buyers.
